THE RETURN: After time out to revisit and redirect my visual practice, I am back to what I should be doing, having a conversation with paint, and examining its materiality and flow in relation to the development of my work
17th February, 2019
Well after travelling to Scotland and the beautiful Isle of Skye, I have taken time out to reassess my work and practice. I felt the need to get back to basics which is the ongoing addiction that I have with paint. I dont need to have a specific project, as such, to respond to, because paint as an entity in itself is a continuing project in itself or I should say process.
It has been good these last eight months working without thinking about exhibitons or any such situation outside of the studio work. I have simply been getting in touch with the materials, and indeed in touch with myself as an artist. I have realised also that travels to places such as the Isle of Skye, is all about experience. The materials that inspire in such enigmatic places, the smells, textures and changing forces, have been a great catalyst to get back to colour and explore its many facets and forms. To once again be aware of the never ending properties of paint, its fluidity and its ability to work with so many other materials and surfaces has been invigorating.. Its good also to find oneself, and to understand that at the end of the day if you are a painter, then all that matters is the ongoing conversation with paint and the endless dialogue that it has, in relation to other materials. Onwards and Upwards, and in a world of All Hail Kale, then with equanimity I say, All Hail Paint.
